Using Space Syntax to Refine Program
Space syntax is a set of theories and techniques used for analyzing spatial configurations to forecast the likely effects of architectural and urban space on users. To trace the likely path of travel both before and after my building design, I programmed an algorithm within Grasshopper using the concepts of isovists and simulated agents. This allowed me to determine where people would naturally go and helped me decide where to place the program.
I hacked an agent-based simulation program to trace common paths of travel throughout the day.
Algae Roof
The conceptual "algae roof" manipulates sun shading, allowing for sunlight to enter deeper into the large roof structure during winter and providing shade in the summer. While the use of algae in building structures is still relatively speculative, many are researching its potential benefits.
